If You Have a Plus Size Bridesmaid

Did you know that almost 70 percent of women in the United States wear a size 12 or above? However, bridal stores traditionally offer try-on samples in a size 8!Fortunately, some companies are adapting to meet the changing needs of their clientele. Most brides enjoy picking out dresses for their bridesmaids. When deciding what dresses to pick out for your bridesmaids, it is important to remember their size. If you have plus size bridesmaids then you will want to make sure to pick out dresses that will fit them and also make them feel comfortable.

First step: Determine her shape. Is she an apple shape? Big on top and small on the bottom? Or is she a pear shape, large on the bottom? You should probably ask her directly since she would know her own body better than anyone else would. She shouldn't be offended about the fact you are trying to help her look amazing. After you figure out the best cut of the dress, look at the length. Is she a short girl? Make your bridesmaid dresses tea-length. If she is tall, feel free to go a bit longer. Take her shopping with you and try on the dresses you have in mind to see how they look.

Choose an "A" shaped dress. This type of dress looks good on anyone. It will be tight at the top and flowing at the bottom. Everyone will be able to hide their shape in it. Most "A" shaped dresses are made for plus size ladies so it won't be a problem to find the size that you need. Do NOT choose a square or flat neckline. This makes heavy people look horrible. Choose a heart shaped bodice, or a v-neck to help flatter the bridesmaids look.

If you have a bridesmaid that is such a plus size that you can't find a dress for her, you may want to have one made for her. Having your bridesmaids dresses made by a seamstress is an excellent idea. You will have fittings and in the long run it may cause you less stress and hassle and be cheaper than ordering a dress.

Pregnant Bridesmaid Jessica Simpson Wears Black for Best Friend's Wedding

"I was the maid of honor last night for my BF @caceecobb. She was the most beautiful bride I have ever seen in my life!"  Jessica Simpson

The possibly pregnant star struck a pose with her BFF, bride CaCee Cobb, who wed Scrubs' star Donald Faison Saturday in Los Angeles in front of 75 friends and family members.

Simpson tweeted Saturday morning, along with a photo of herself strategically hiding her tummy with a bouquet of flowers as she stood beside her fiance, Eric Johnson. Jessica Simpson has never officially confirmed she was pregnant, the new photos have fans discussing the subject all over again and apparently most fans think she is pregnant. Jess may be giving the public, who you know is collectively waiting for her to "get huge," a run for their money. The Fashion Star mentor and fiance Eric Johnson's second baby "definitely wasn't planned," says the source, but the singer-designer is said to be "overjoyed" with her surprise news.

Yes, black is slimming -- as are large objects strategically placed over midsections -- but the way this bridesmaid dress is made, with fabric gathered together in the middle, doesn't make it easy to look, um, small. In fact, I find these types of dresses to be have the least flattering kind of fit.

How to Buy Cheap Bridesmaids Dresses

If you are the bridesmaid you might not want to spend you budget on something that you will wear only once, but the catch is - you still want to look fashionable and cute. Find a dress that won't break your budget. You'll please the bride and yourself at the same time. In fact, there are a lot of offers on the Internet that would fit your standards. The only problems with looking for cheap bridesmaid dresses online is that it is hard to pick something that suits your imaginations perfectly and fast, right?

Simple Styles
A dress with less detail will be less expensive. A plain bridesmaid dress with few details and a simple shape can be much cheaper than a more elaborate choice. Look for style that have fewer parts and draw on standard dress shapes such as an A-line or drop waist. If the wedding is being held during December, red and green may be easier to find and less expensive than shades associated with spring, such as lavender and pale yellow.

Buy All Your Dresses in the Same Place
Department stores like Nordstrom How to Find Cheap Bridesmaid Dresses and Dillard's are also great places to look. If you're one of several bridesmaids, then buy all your dresses in the same place. A store will give often give you a discount if all members of the bridal party agree shop there. Ask other members of the bridal party, such as the ushers, maid of honor and flower girl, to shop at the specific store as well. If the store is part of a chain of stores, you may still be able to get discounts if bridal party members agree to buy dresses at the same chain.

Online Shop

You may also try looking online at Asos, eDressMe or MagicDress. Just make sure you'll be able to return the dresses if they don't work out. On line retailers often have a selection of bridesmaids dresses in wide variety of colors and fabrics. Purchasing dresses on line can be much cheaper than buying them at a bridal salon.

Rent a Bridesmaid Dress
Like renting a tuxedo, bridesmaids can also borrow a dress for the big day and this perhaps our favorite way to score cheap bridesmaids dresses. Many bridal boutiques don't offer this option, Rent the Runway Weddings and Wear Today Gone Tomorrow are great places to find gorgeous dresses online.

Go Short Dresses for Bridesmaids on Your Big Day

Going short doesn't always have to feel informal. If you're a bridesmaid who loves shoes and accessories, a short bridesmaid dress may be the style for you! When deciding on your bridesmaids' dresses and whether they should be long or short, you will have to consider the type of wedding you are having (formal vs. informal), time of day and the time of year.

If the wedding will be more on the casual side, then check out knee-length, tea-length, or even mini dresses. With all that going, you want to make sure you choose bridesmaid dresses that the bride going to love. Not sure where to start? You've come to the right place. Formal (black-tie) weddings call for floor-length gowns, while an informal wedding (i.e. cocktail receptions, black-tie optional and/or daytime) is the perfect place for a cocktail-length dress, which is usually above, below or directly at the knee.

If the ceremony is taking place during the day, keep the bridesmaid dresses at cocktail length, as opposed to evening affairs where short, t-length (mid-calf) or floor length are a personal choice. Sundresses for a wedding on the beach are perfectly appropriate, while tea length dresses are a great option for an evening wedding at home.

Choose Simple but Elegant Bridesmaid Dresses

Wedding is an occasion that makes you enjoy while it is an occasion for your bridesmaid to work for the whole day to make the wedding special. They are definitely the persons to help you conduct your wedding in a smooth way and you have to take more care when you are choosing a bridesmaid dress for them. Choosing outfits to suit you all can be tricky if there are alot of bridesmaids or there is a large age range. Adults won't want to be dressed the same as children, and the bride should bear in mind that the outfits she picks need to flatter people of different ages and sizes!. What your bridesmaids will expect from you is a simple gown that is comfortable to wear for the whole day until your wedding ceremony ends.

All strapless maid bridesmaid dresses come with optional spaghetti straps. Give your maids the option to wear the straps if it makes them more comfortable. It won't look strange in your pictures. If some of your maids are busty or top heavy, you need to pay attention to the depth of the neckline. A too plunging neckline will make it hard for them to find a good supporting bra and may make them feel very uncomfortable in the dress.

If the fabric is silk, taffeta, silk satin, or any other of the luxurious fabrics, you are guaranteed to obtain a simple bridesmaid dress with an elegant note. More than these, there are plenty of these so-called simple gowns that are complemented by the choice of color. There are colors that can imprint the final note to a dress as simple as this one might be designed. A simple bridesmaid dress must be styled in simple lines, such as it is with the classic column style or even the empire style can contain simply cut lines introduced in the design of a simple gown.

Selecting The Perfect Bridesmaid Shoes

In today's modern weddings where the bridal party now pay for most or sometimes even all of their clothing, It may seem to be not as important as the bridesmaid dress, so is often overlooked but one of the biggest dilemmas when dressing bridesmaids is the shoe issue. Choosing the perfect shoes for the bridesmaids should not be left up just to the bride.

Choosing a fairly basic style which is universally flattering will compliment a much broader margin of body types. One should only consider character specific styles if the bridesmaids are very similar in looks and their appearance suits the concept. Enquire and observe if the shoe is available in a similar style with a different heel or a broader fit. Before you and your bridesmaids even get to the shoe store you and your bridesmaids need to discuss what types of shoes they are able to walk in. Remember that the most important thing about your bridesmaids shoes is that they should be comfortable to wear. If all of your bridesmaids are confident that they can wear a pair of heels without falling, you should seriously consider getting stilettos.

Just like you want the dresses your bridesmaids wear to compliment your wedding, your bridesmaids shoes should compliment the bridesmaids dresses. When you are shopping for the shoes ignore the color of the shoe and concentrate on the fabric instead. If your bridesmaids will be wearing satin dresses you will want to find shoes that are made out of some sort of shiny material or patent leather.

The next alternative to consider is matching the style of the shoe but specifying a different colour for each bridesmaid. This can have a beautiful affect in two ways. If all the bridesmaids are in different colour dresses of the same style it can look amazingly put together if the shoes of each happen to match the dress. On the other hand if the dresses are all the same, the shoes are all the same but each shoe a different colour it expresses just a touch of individuality which adds an extremely beautiful element to your presentation.

Bridesmaids Bouquets Different from the Brides Bouquet

The bride chooses her bouquet first and then designs the bridesmaids' bouquets to coordinate, but not copy. The difference between a bride's flowers and those carried by her attendants can be quite subtle, it might be nothing more than a shift in size, shape, or color. But within these basic divergences exists a multitude of lovely and creative possibilities.

1. The bride's bouquet is generally larger than the bridesmaids' bouquets. The flowers might be bigger than those of the bridesmaids, or the bride's bouquet might have more flowers.

2. The bride's bouquet and the bridesmaids' bouquets are generally not all the same colors. The bride's bouquet might be solid red roses, while the bridesmaids carry roses in three coordinating colors.

3. The bride's bouquet can be more embellished than the bridesmaids'. The bridesmaid bouquet usually very simple. The bride might add Swarvoski crystals to her bouquet or she might add pearls to the ribbon on a hand-tied bouquet. If it is a country side theme wedding, the flowers not limited to rose and hydrangea, and the bridesmaids even can choose small wild flowers as bouquets.

Tips for Buying Bridesmaid Dresses

Start Early
Different manufacturers have different lead times. You will also want to leave enough time for alterations – usually at least 1 month before the wedding if not sooner.

Make a Shopping Date and Appointment
Appointments are often necessary in bridal shops and department stores– even for bridesmaid dresses. You will want to call ahead to find out if an appointment is needed so you don't add to your stress level when you arrive only to find out they can't see you with out one.

Get Measured
The first thing you want to do is to have all of the bridesmaids professionally measured for their bridesmaid dresses. You can often do this at your first bridal shop or department store. This way you can cross reference them with the size chart for the manufacturer you have selected in order to ensure you order the size that is closest to their figure. When choosing a dress, it is the bride's privilege to select the color and type of fabric of the bridesmaids' dresses. It should complement the bride's gown, but it should also be comfortable and attractive for the attendants. Consideration should be given to the bridesmaids' styles, color preferences, their figure types as well as their budgets.

Accessories
Accessories, such as shoes, gloves, shawls, purses and hair combs should also be decided upon once the bridesmaid dresses have been selected. Leave plenty of time for shoes to be dyed and picked up. Also consider what color hosiery you want everyone to wear, as well as bras and slips if applicable.

When to the bouquets, you should match with your bridesmaid dresses, the wedding decor and bride bouquet, also the season. Amaryllis, Casablanca Lily, Freesia, Gerber Daisy, Heather, Holly, Narcissus, Poinsettia, Rose, Stephanotis are perfect for Winter.

Bridal Shower Changed in Recent Years

Showers can be held closer or farther from the wedding, depending on what is convenient for the bride and hostess. Who throws the bridal shower is another factor that has changed; generally, it is the maid of honor with help from the bridesmaids. Nowadays, however, anyone who wants to host a shower can, with one exception: members of the bride's immediate family.

Wedding showers usually last about two hours, but again, this can vary depending on the type of shower you plan on giving. The time at the shower can be broken down any number of ways, but the basic format usually includes the following components:

  • Arrival and introduction of guests
  • Bridal shower games
  • Lunch/tea/brunch
  • Opening of gifts
  • Cutting and serving of cake

Wedding shower games are a great way for guests to interact. Don't wait for everyone to show up. Late arrivals can join in on the next game. Allow time for two games but have a third one ready to go just in case you breeze through the first two.

Maid of Honor Speech: Dos and Don'ts

Your best friend asked you to be the maid of honor at her wedding. It's the most important role in the bridal party and should be taken very seriously. Besides the bridesmaid dresses, you also should think about the speech you must give and maybe you will start to get nervous. What do you say? What if you make a fool of yourself? Here's your complete guide to the maid of honor's toast -- what to say, when to say it, and how to get rid of those nervous butterflies.

1. Treat this duty with respect, and you'll wow the crowd with your speech -- whether it's heartfelt or hilarious. To avoid too many nerves or worries on the day begin preparing your speech as soon as you have been asked to be the Maid of Honor. If you start this early then it can be finished and practised weeks before the wedding date arrives.

2. Maid of Honor speeches follow the Best Man's speech and you certainly don't want to flounder and embarrass yourself by not having anything prepared. This is your time to show the appreciation of the friendship you have with the Bride and also to wish her well in her marriage. The Best Man will have mainly concentrated on the Groom in his speech and so it is now your turn to say something about the Bride.

3. Avoid Negative or Embarrassing Stories. You should also avoid stories involving drunk, high or deviant behavior. It's definitely not appropriate for the setting. The goal of your speech is to celebrate a friendship and a new marriage, not to air your friend's dirty laundry.

4. Stay Calm, Cool & Collected.Take deep breaths. Think pleasant thoughts. Maybe have a glass of wine, but don't overdo it. You definitely want to avoid that drunken honor attendant cliche. Remember, when it's all over, you get to party hardy. Speak slowly, and no, no one's going to care that your hands are shaking.

Rehab Bridesmaid Dress to a New Dress

So, the question still remains…can you really wear that bridesmaid dress again? We've all either been in weddings or have been to weddings, and the bridesmaid gowns aren't always the most chic or flattering. Well, I'm here to tell you that you can definitely wear that dress again! Katherine Heigl should have read this post instead of coveting all those 27 Dresses in her NYC apartment closet.

This dress is a traditional Filipino butterfly sleeved one, which is pretty much a sight to behold. Bright pink, and big, ole puffy sleeves.

We could have used material to brew coffee after! Post-sleeve fix, I worked on removing the bodice from the skirt, to turn this into two separate pieces. Since it won't work again as a dress, we're getting crafty and repurposing into a completely different piece. The stitches around the waist were removed and the dress turned into two pieces! Next, the raw edges at the bottom of the bodice got pinned under and then sewn in place.

The neckline was given a little cinch and pinch, where by cinching the bust area and pinning a safety pin in place, a bit of ruching is created and in just a few easy steps, you can go from frockalicious to super chic and have something appropriate for day…or night with just some accessory changes!
